Blurbs Turned Bride

On January 20th I married my favourite blogger!  Now I am figuring out life as a wedded woman, and enjoying every moment.  Married adventures and a return to regular Blurb blogging will [hopefully] debut soon!

The gorgeous photography was by the wonderful Joel Ready of Ready Media. Location was Notre Dame of Maryland University, in the beautiful Marikle Chapel of the Annunciation.

All I Want For Christmas

This time next month I'll be married and on a warm (and hopefully sunny) honeymoon. This time next year, I'll be celebrating Christmas in our adorable home with my husband.

Pictured is our house wearing the white holiday dusting we got yesterday. Delightful. :-)

Words cannot describe my anticipation and thankfulness on this blessed Christmas Day. Hoping your fondest wishes and prayers are answered this season,

-Deb.

Behind In Writing Because

Next month, we are getting married.  Last week, we bought a house. Also, the realization that I get up and go to work every day (and no longer take classes) took a long time to sink in for me.  It's truly a new chapter.

Happy Holidays!  Hope life has been kindly to you.  I shall return.

The Countdown Has Begun

It's finally official!

 Wedding Countdown Ticker

The venue has been reserved, guest lists and budgets have been made (and painfully edited), "Save The Dates" have gone out, and the wedding website has been published.

There is so much to do.  But with it all will come so many chances to smile, learn, sacrifice, rejoice, create, and dream.

In two hundred days I will marry my best friend.

New Things

I just realized I can blog with my new toy/grad gift - iPod touch! It replaces my beloved iPod I lost a few months back, plus giving me the capability to do much more away from the computer.

Commencement was last Sunday for the 2012 class of CCBC. It was personally an incredible day! Enjoy a couple pics.

(I'm nervous about the formatting of this post. Yay for trial and error!)

More Teasers! (Not My Own)

To quickly answer my last post: they're the two venues we're currently deciding between for the wedding!  Notre Dame of MD, and a friend's home.

Now until next time, something else that is making me happy!

Finalist!

(This is Part Two of Tassles and Titles)

I'm a finalist for President's Distinguished Graduate!  I have an interview on Friday.  I'm not sure who exactly will be interviewing me or what I will be asked, but I'm excited nonetheless to have made it this far.

I wrote an essay with my application, trying to encapsulate my CCBC experience.  That wasn't completely possible, but I did have this to say:

Proposal Story, Part II

This past December I was secretly expecting something big to happen in my and Nathan's life.  Yet our anniversary and Christmas had come and gone, being pleasant but not holding the special moment I had hoped for.  My man and my parents had a few mysterious conversations and "errands" right before Christmas, and I started to suspect something was going on.

On December 27th Nathan took me to Longwood Gardens.  We spent the whole day exploring the huge gardens, greenhouses, tree houses, and hidden paths.  I was in absolute heaven, especially during the magical moment we found an old stone bell tower that happened to be chiming just as we walked the tiny tree-lined path leading to it.  The weather wasn't ideal, yet the rain made me feel we were enjoying a stormy day straight out of a Frances Hodgson Burnett novel.  At one point I teased him that it was a perfect day to propose to me.  The face he made caused me to immediately apologize and tell him (truthfully) that I was having an incredible time and was only teasing him.

Late in the afternoon as we left the grand conservatory on the Longwood property and headed into the chilling rain and wind, we decided to stop at the outdoor theatre water fountains on our way to the car.  As we waited, I was struck by the ludicrousness of waiting to see a water show while standing in a violent rain storm.  I suggested we go, but Nathan insisted we stay, and so we watched a few rounds of water fountains variations set to different Christmas tunes.  At one point, I turned and found him looking at me very oddly, while standing very oddly.  I asked him "why are you acting weird?" at which he exclaimed "I am not acting weird!"  We were surrounded by people young and old also observing the show (and the storm) and I took pictures of the fountains until we both decided it was time to leave.

He chose a path back to the parking lot that led us through a completely empty and cozy garden filled with benches, trellises and brick paths. I was hurrying to the car on his arm while he carried an umbrella, and suddenly he stopped.  I turned back to look at his face, and when he started the speak I burst into tears as I realized what was happening!   He was holding the umbrella in one hand and the ring in the other, and I stared at him, shocked and ecstatic.  I'm not going to divulge the exact words, but the way in which he asked was eloquent, beautiful, and brief (classic Nathan :-)).  I was crying so hard I couldn't answer, and when I tried to stop crying I started to laugh and still couldn't answer!  But finally I said "yes, yes!!" and we held each other (and kissed a whole bunch. :-) :-p)  Eventually I asked "Can I wear it now?" (the ring) and then I cried and kissed him some more and then I asked to call my mom.  I couldn't even operate my phone I was freaking out so much, so he dialed the call for me.  While I was talking to her the wind blew our umbrella inside out.  Just imagine us in the middle of this storm, me crying and laughing like an idiot on the phone and he wrestling with an inside-out umbrella, and both happy!

The End of Engagement Story, but just the beginning for lots more adventures.  Together. <3

P.S.  I dare my husband-to-be to tell his version.  I like when he tells stories. :-) *update* You can read his side of the story on his blog (and it's "pretty ballin'!")

Proposal Story, Part I

Some of you know us offline, or have been following this blog long enough, to know that Nathan and I have been dating for about two years.  You may also know I had a bit of a rough time before and right after we got together as a couple.  Regardless, I've known since within the first few weeks of dating him that he was The One.  I hate to be one of those cheesy, infuriating people who says " I just knew" so I won't.  But I did. ;-)

Once you know what you want, and you want it more than anything, and you know not having it is like missing a key to the rest of your life moving forward, it's easy to start becoming discontented, anxious, or even confused.  I did just that at times.  We had discussed and agreed that we would one day get married, and had also agreed it wasn't the time to officially take on that commitment (didn't have full-time jobs, wasn't finished school, etc).  But deep down, I just wanted to get engaged and move forward.  I freely admit I had started to occasionally pester him about it.  I was caught between knowing I wanted him as a permanent part of my life and figuring out how to plan my life without him yet being that permanent part.  However, I wanted him to be sure, confident, and happy about moving into that phase of our relationship.

Right after Christmas and before the New Year, my dearest invited me to share the rest of his life with him!  The moment was unexpected, thrilling, and lovely.

To be continued... ;-)

Post-Christmas Bling

Remember when I said yesterday that "not much has changed" recently?

Well, this changes the picture a bit.

I'M ENGAGED!! :-D

I'm so full of words but I can't get them out just right.  Hopefully one of us will be coherent enough to share the full story soon, 'cause it's a good one!

Happy New Year, my friends!  I never dreamed 2011 would leave me with such a big smile on my face.

Concerts, Sunrises, and Treasures

This weekend I saw an awesome concert and met my all-time favourite band!!!

(didn't get to meet Stephen, :-[ so his portion of the poster isn't shown)

Then, I went on a pre-sunrise adventure with two of my closest friends to one of the most special events I've ever been apart of.  It was truly so good it makes my heart hurt a bit.  Never pass up a chance to bless those who have blessed you.

This was the most amazing and memorable weekend I've had in a long time.  Life's treasures can come upon you at any moment if you are open to receive them. :-)

Who, Me? Excited? Nah.

via rechertheatre.com

It's been over two years since I have seen them and I am so excited!  Here's hoping to a good show!  Of course, they will put on a good show, but I know from experience too many things that can happen to make shows annoying experiences.  But YAY!

(In case you're new and don't understand what all the jumping up and down is about, go visit this post.)

High Notes and Dark Holes

I miss talking to you guys!  I'm consumed by theatre, Phi Theta Kappa, schoolwork, and random weak moments in which I fall down dark YouTube holes.

I regularly forget that I have tickets for an ANBERLIN concert this Saturday, but deep down, I am psyched!

@The_Moment is wrapped and you can read an outside perspective of it here.  (<--I'm pretty jazzed by what lies at that link!)  I have all sorts of fun tidbits to share from the show...but they'll have to wait.

I'm auditioning for the fall academic show this Wednesday, as well as co-chairing the Alpha Rho Psi orientation.  I'm presenting my second project of the semester for speech class tomorrow, and learning some pretty kick-a$$ songs in my voice lessons.  I'm studying "Think of Me" from Phantom of the Opera!!!  <3  Also something in Italian that I'm probably mercilessly butchering but sounds nice if you know nothing of the language. :-p

My biggest challenge (read: stressor) is whether I am doing too much or too little.  I want excellent grades, I need to become a better performer, I need to be a strong leader...but not at the expense of my sanity, health, or general happiness. Anyone have any advice?

Whoa! This Is New.

*phone ringing in my ear*
Operator: "Central Casting"
Me "Yes, hello!  Is this *Agent Lady*?"
Operator: "No. Please hold for *Agent Lady*
Me: "Thank you!"
...
*Agent Lady*: Hello?
Me: "Yes, this is Deborah. You emailed me in response to *title of HBO movie here*? I was just returning your message."
A.L.: "*blank silence* Oh!  Didn't I JUST send that email?"
Me: "Yes ma'am.  I, uh, have a BlackBerry, so um, I got your message and called you right away!"
A.L.: "*laughs* oh ok!  She's a mind reader!"

...and the following conversation entailed the details of what will be my first job on a movie!  I don't get location and full details until I call in the day before the shoot, but I am officially going to be working on a movie!  More to come. :-D

(my current tag for this post isn't completely applicable, I suppose! ;-)

Won't Be Just Any Night!

I am internally bouncing up and down and ready to cry with excitement because I just bought tickets to go here to see this!

Let's break it down.  One, I'm obviously a theatre geek and this is obviously one of the greatest musicals of all time.  Secondly, West Side Story is the show that set me on the path of my love for and dedication to theatre.  I saw it at my friend's high school many years ago, and I still remember how moved I was that evening.  I knew when I watching it that I wanted to be on stage some day.

The Hippodrome is a few minutes away from my home but this will be my first time attending a show there.  This revival of West Side Story closed on Broadway January 2nd and the national tour has been working its way across American this spring.  This production is directed by Arthur Laurents, who wrote the book version of "West Side Story"!

To top it off, my tickets are for orchestra seating, but since I got them through my school I paid an insanely discounted amount!

Seeing this show will be the kick-off to my spring break, and I'm sure it will be a night to remember!!  <3

Dashboard At The Recher

The Dashboard concert was amazing!!  The crowd was slightly obnoxious, but made up for it by being filled with a ton of passion for Chris Carrabba's music.  And Chris fed graciously into that passion, turning the concert into an experience that celebrated his fan's love for the music as much as it did the anniversary of his album.

His entire set was solo acoustic and his voice was out of this world.  He played Swiss Army Romance in its entirety, as well as some other songs.  My only qualm going into this concert was that "Swiss Army Romance Tour" implied to me that I would only be hearing that album's songs, therefore excluding my all-time favourite Dashboard song "Hands Down".  To my ecstatic delight, he played it as the finale :-D (as well as "Vindicated" and "Stolen" in an "encore" set that we all knew was coming).  As Boyfriend put it, the concert is still mentally a surreal experience.

All pictures and videos in this entry are mine.   I have more pictures on my Facebook.  The videos start out loud and stay so throughout due to the crowd singing and shouting, so you might want to check your volume button. (I moved the videos to my youtube channel).

If you're a Carrabba fan who has never seen him live, I can honestly say he is just as good or better in person.  Did you know he's reuniting with Further Seems Forever?  I'm excited to see what's next for him!

Anniversary Concert

This is the longest Friday afternoon ever, despite the fact I get to leave work early.  Why?  Because in about 6 more hours I'll be seeing Chris Carrabba (of Dashboard Confessional) at the Recher Theatre in Towson.  Boyfriend and I both enjoy DC's music, so we got the tickets in celebration of our upcoming one-year anniversary.  Chris is on a solo tour for the ten-year anniversary of Swiss Army Romance, his debut album.

I've never seen Chris or Dashboard live, and I am SO EXCITED!!!  I'll recap it next week.  :-D

Giving Thanks For Break!

It's day three of Thanksgiving break, and I'm so content and relaxed!   Today and tomorrow were supposed to be my "homework days" and I've gotten some math done, but I keep getting distracted.  At least it's with productive things I distract myself!  This week I've been giving my room an over-haul.  On Wednesday Boyfriend helped me move furniture, hang pictures, and motivated me to throw out or give away lots of things.  Since then I've been going through corners and boxes a bit at a time, facing the fact that I have a lot of things that were once important and now..aren't.   It's a cleansing feeling.  It's also given me a lot of gift items I can resell at the Lemon.

On Thursday I had a really nice holiday.  Prof Carl and his wife hosted Boyfriend, I, and another student at their house for a lovely turkey dinner.   They are incredible people and were fun hosts!  We had a great time of eating, playing music (we had guitar, autoharp, mandolin, and more going on!, and getting to know their awesome kids.  I truly didn't want to leave.

I'm excited that my holiday season is off to a great start.  I'm determined to enjoy Christmas this year, and exude holiday spirit by being a loving, grateful, and joyful person.  Please be patient with me when I fail, and celebrate with me as I grow.  :-)
